May 07:`Acting tough against drug peddlers, Police booked five (05) notorious drug peddlers under PIT NDPS Act in Handwara & Sopore after obtaining formal detention orders from competent authority.

In Handwara, two (02) notorious drug peddlers namely Prince Parvaiz Hanji son of Parvaiz Ah Hanji resident of Maratgam and Hillal Ah Dar son of Ab Rehman resident of Chogul have been booked under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority.

Moreover, Police in Sopore booked three (03) drug smugglers namely Aadil Ashraf Khan son of Mohammad Ashraf Khan resident of Pethseer Sopore, Aaqib Nissar Gojree son of Nissar Ahmad Gojree resident of Batpora A/P Model Town Sopore and Bashir Ahmad Dar son of Zaffar Ahmad Dar resident of Bunpora Dangerpora Sopore under PIT-NDPS after obtaining formal detention orders from competent authority.

The booked drug peddlers have been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jammu. Pertinent to mention here that many cases are registered against the said drug peddlers and were involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth in their districts. Despite their involvement in many FIRs, they did not mend their activities and were again involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth.

General public have appreciated the role of Police for their action against drug peddlers. Consistent actions against the drug peddlers should reassure the community members that police are making all efforts to keep our society free from drug abuse.```
