SRINAGAR, JUNE 13: A meeting of Central Police Welfare Committee (CPWC) was held in the auditorium of Police Headquarters here today. Director General of Police Shri Dilbag Singh chaired the meeting which was attended by ADGsP Sh. B. Srinivas, Sh. A.K Choudhary, Sh. A.G Mir, Sh. Munir Ahmad Khan , IsGP Sh. S.D Singh, Sh. Danesh Rana, Sh. J.P Singh, Sh. Vijay Kumar, Sh. Alok Kumar, Sh. Surinder Gupta and S Ahfadul Mujtaba. Besides senior officers of the department, representatives from all units and districts of the department participated in the meeting and put their views and suggestions for the introduction and strengthening of different welfare measure.

At the very outset of the meeting one minute silence was observed in order to pay homage to the martyrs of yesterday terror attack at Anantnag.

The following decisions were taken in the meeting after threadbare discussions. Enhancement in Special Welfare Relief from Rs.15.00 lakhs to Rs.20.00 lakhs (inclusive of immediate relief of Rs.1.00 lakh) payable to NOK of subscriber in the event of his death while in service. Enhancement in Retirement gift from existing scale of Rs.60,000/- to Rs.75,000/-. Meritorious scholarship for wards of G.Os revived with immediate effect. The powers for sanctioning of welfare loan to various welfare Committees enhanced.

Provision of relief to SPOs seriously injured during law and order duties enhanced from Rs.1.00 lakh upto Rs.1.50 lakh. Provision of suitable financial assistance up to Rs.0.50 lakh for the treatment of SPOs and their dependents suffering from life terminal ailments. Enhancement in financial aid for marriage of daughter of Martyred Police Personnel/ SPOs from Rs.0.25 lakh to Rs.0.50 lakh. Scholarships schemes introduced for the wards of Martyred SPOs on the scales as applicable to wards of Police Martyrs. Provision of Bara Khana revived to boost the morale of jawans up to Rs.0.50 lakh. Special relief payable to NoKs of SPO in the event of his death while in service enhanced from Rs.2.50 lakh to Rs.5.00 lakh (inclusive of immediate relief of Rs.0.50 lakh)

Speaking on this occasion the DGP Shri Dilbag Singh said that the decisions taken today in the open house by the representatives of the welfare committees of different units across the different wings will go a long way in providing more help and assistance to the police personnel in the time of need. He said that police department is thankful to the state and central governments for enhancement of ex-gratia relief in favour of police personnel/SPOs, increase in hardship allowance and remuneration of SPOs. He said that the J&K Police is praised at highest levels because of its work and thanked the representatives for healthy participation and discussion.

The DGP impressed upon the DDOs to ensure speedy disposal of the matters pertaining to the NoKs of martyrs particularly employment issues. He stress upon the special welfare and care of retired police persons, SPOs and their families. He said that both these important sections of police family need greater care. He said that many proposals including those of pay anomaly, availability of posts, referral of injured police personnel to outside and providing air ambulance for shifting of seriously injured police personnel for special treatment outside State have been submitted to government. He advised the officers and personnel to work with dedication and commitment for their overall welfare of the people.

In the inaugural address ADGP Headquarters PHQ Sh. A.G. Mir said that Jammu and Kashmir police is facing multiple challenges including those of law & order and terrorism and their is a need to review the welfare schemes from time to time for the personnel and their families. He said that the schemes formulated for the welfare of serving and retired personnel and the families of martyrs including the SPOs are focused to provide them help in the time of need and distress.
AIG (Welfare) Shri Manoj Kumar Pandita gave a resume of the follow-up of the minutes of the last welfare meeting. He placed the agenda for the welfare meeting before the house and also presented the balance sheets of the welfare accounts.
