DGP sanctions Rs.1.60 crore special welfare relief/ex-gratia relief for NoKs of police personnel/SPOs.


SRINAGAR July 26 : Continuing with its endeavour to provide financial assistance to the families of the martyred/deceased police personnel, the Director General of Police Shri Dilbag Singh has sanctioned rupees 80 lakh as Special Welfare Relief and over rupees 55 lakh ex.gratia relief in favour of dependents/legal heirs of martyred, deceased Police personnel/SPOs.

DGP has sanctioned Rupees 38 lakh ex-gratia relief in favour of NoKs of Constable Suhail Mushtaq Lohar who attained martyrdom in a terrorist attack at Bhagat Chowk Srinagar. While as rupees 17.50 lakh ex-gratia relief has also been sanctioned in favour of dependents/legal heirs of martyred SPO Shabaz Ahmad who attained martyrdom during an encounter with terrorists at Zantrag Khrew.

The special welfare relief of rupees 20 lakh each has been sanctioned in favour of dependents/legal heirs of deceased personnel ASI Qiyam-ud-Din Khatana, HCs Lal Hussain, Muzaffar Ahmad SgCt. Sudesh Kumari and follower Sanjeev Kumar who expired during service due to health-related issues. Rupees 5 lakh has also been sanctioned in favour of NoKs of deceased SPO Man Singh who expired due to illness during the course of his engagement with the department.

Out of this amount (special welfare relief) rupees one lakh each was already paid to the families/NoKs for performing the last rites as immediate relief by the PHQ through their concerned units/Districts. The financial assistance has been given out of the Contributory Police Welfare Fund.

Police Headquarters is running many schemes for the welfare of its personnel and their families. There are also schemes for the wards of Police personnel and SPOs. Besides, there are schemes for the NoKs of martyrs, their wards and also for the retired Police personnel and their spouses.
