Police arrest 03 notorious drug peddlers in Shopian; contraband substance recovered


September 13: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police in Shopian have arrested 03 notorious drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A police party of Police Station Shopian at a checkpoint established at Shopian Zawoora road, intercepted 03 persons riding on a motorcycle (Pulsar) bearing registration number JK22C-2993. During search, officers were able to recover 170 grams of Heroin like substance, cash amount of ₹3.40 lacs believed to be the proceeds of narcotic crime from their possession. They have been identified as identified as Amir Mehmood Malik son of Mehmood Malik resident of Chak Chotipora, Amir Manzoor Khoker son of Manzoor Ahmed Khoker resident of Tuli Hallan Nagbal Shopian and Mushtaq Ahmed Bhat son of Gulam Nabi Bhat resident of Tantrypora Kulgam. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Motorcycle used in the commission of crime has also been seized. The recovered drugs were sealed and seized as per the provisions of NDPS act in presence of executive magistrate on spot.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 184/2022 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Shopian and further investigation has been initiated. More recoveries and arrests are expected.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.```
