October 02:`Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drug trafficking from its gross root level, Police in Awantipora have arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

A Police party led by incharge Police Post Reshipora under the supervision of SDPO Awantipora Shri Mumtaz Ali Bhatti during naka checking near Panzgam crossing intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee away from the spot but was apprehended tactfully. During search, officers were able to recover 17Kgs of grinded Cannabis Powder concealed in 03 Nylon bags were recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Bashir Ahmad Dar son of Mohammad Ashan Dar resident Panzgam Awantipora. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 220/2022 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Awantipora and further investigation has been initiated.

Moreover, a police party of Police Station Awantipora launched a special bung destruction drive at village Charligund and destroyed wild bung. General public of the area have widely appreciated the action taken by the Police and assured their full cooperation in future as well to eradicate drug menace from the society.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding cultivation of contrabands in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling & cultivation of contraband substances shall be dealt as per law.```
