Police arrests 06 drug peddlers, contraband substances recovered

February 03:``Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested 06 drug peddlers in Kulgam, Shopian & Ganderbal districts and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A police party of Police Station Kulgam at a checkpoint established at Okay Kulgam, intercepted a suspicious person carrying a nylon bag who on seeing police party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully. During search, 50grams of Charas and 2kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Bhat son of Late Bashir Ahmad Bhat resident of Okay Kulgam. He was shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Meanwhile in Shopian, a Police party of PS Zainapora along with CRPF during routine patrolling at T-Chowk area of Zainapora intercepted & apprehended 03 suspicious persons. During checking, officers were able to recover 10grams of Heroin & cash amount of ₹18000/= (proceeds of narcotic crime) from their possession. They have been identified as Yawar Ahmad Bhat son of Ab Razaq Bhat resident of Reshipora, Muneeb Ah Bhat son of Abdul Rashid resident of Wachi & Adil Ah Sheikh son of Bashir Ah resident of Zainapora. They have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody.

Similarly in Ganderbal, a police party led by SHO PS Lar under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Ganderbal Shri Gh Hassan-JKPS at a checkpoint established at Repora intercepted 02 suspicious persons who on seeing police party tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended tactfully by alert police party. During checking, officers were able to recover contraband substance from their possession. They have been identified as Mohammad Faiz son of Mohammad Ayoob resident of Rampur UP and Mohammad Dilshad son of Mohammad Ramzan resident of Meerapur UP. They have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.```
