Police arrests 03 drug peddlers, contraband substances recovered

May 31: `Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, police have arrested three drug peddlers in Baramulla and Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In Baramulla, a police party led by SHO Police Station Tangmarg under the supervision of SDPO Tangmarg Shri Imtiyaz Ahmad-JKPS during naka checking at Main Market Tangmarg intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully. During checking, 40 grams of Charas like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Latief Ahmad Mir son of Gh Ahmad Mir resident of Nadirgund Kahipora Tangmarg. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Similarly, a police party led by Incharge PP Kungamdora under the supervision of Shri Mohd Nawaz-JKPS arrested one drug smuggler identified as Khalid Rashid Lone son of Abdul Rashid Lone resident of Hanjiwera Pattan during naka checking at Kungamdara Pattan. During search, 50 grams of charas like substance was recovered from his possession.

In Kulgam, a police party headed by SHO Police Station Behibagh at a checkpoint established at Kadder intercepted a suspicious person identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Thoker son of Mohd Hayat Thoker resident of Kadder. During checking, 2.3Kgs of Cannabis Powder and 50 grams of Charas carrying in a Nylon bag was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigation has been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.```
