Police arrests 02 drug peddlers in Baramulla and Handwara; contraband substance recovered

June 07: Police in its recent action against drug dealings in Baramulla & Handwara have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered contraband substance from their possession.

In Baramulla, a Police party of PS Tangmarg under the supervision of SDPO Tangmarg Shri Hilal Khaliq-JKPS at a checkpoint established at Drung Crossing intercepted a person identified as Tahir Bashir Khan son of Bashir Ahmad Khan resident of Check Ferozpora Tangmarg. During search, officers were able to recover 109 grams of Charas from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains custody.

Similarly in Handwara, a police party of PS Handwara arrested a lady drug peddler and recovered 25 grams of Brown Sugar and cash amount of ₹1,04,300/-, believed to be proceed of drug sale, from her possession.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective Police Stations and investigation have been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.```
