June 15: Continuing its efforts to curb the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested a drug peddler in Budgam and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

A police party of Police Station Beerwah during routine patrolling at Bundgam Beerwah intercepted a person carrying two bags in suspicious condition. When police party signalled him to stop he tried to flee from the spot but police party apprehended him tactfully. During search, 7Kgs of poppy straw which he had concealed in 02 bags were recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Mushtaq Ahmed Bhat son of Sana-ullah Bhat resident of Bundgam. He has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 73/2022 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Beerwah and investigation was initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddler in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddler should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.```
