October 02:`Police alongwith security forces have neutralized a local terrorist of proscribed terror outfit LeT in Baskuchan area of Shopian. Moreover, one police personnel attained martyrdom in a gruesome terror attack in Pinglena area of Pulwama.

Based on a specific input generated by Police regarding presence of a terrorist in village Baskuchan area of Shopian, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, Army (44R) and CRPF (178Bn) in the said area.

During the search operation, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorist fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter.

In the ensuing encounter, 01 local terrorist linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter. He has been identified as Naseer Ahmad Bhat of Nowpora Baskuchan, Shopian. As per police records, the killed terrorist was a categorized terrorist and involved in several terror crime cases.

Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 01 AK rifle were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.

In this regard, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation is in progress. People are requested to cooperate with Police till the area at encounter site is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials, if any.

Moreover, at about 1500hrs terrorists fired upon a joint party of Police/CRPF in Pinglena area of Pulwama in which police personnel Javid Ahmad Dar attained martyrdom and a CRPF personnel got injured. The injured has been immediately evacuated to hospital for the treatment of his injuries. Senior police officers alongwith reinforcement reached at the terror crime spot.

We pay our rich tributes to the martyr for his supreme sacrifices made in the line of duty. We standby the family of the martyr at this crucial juncture and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured personnel.

Police has registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law. Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of this terror crime. Area has been cordoned off and search in the area is going on.```
