DGP pays rich tributes to martyrs; congratulates the recipients


Jammu, March 14: Director General of Police, J&K Shri Dilbag Singh in his message has paid rich tributes on behalf of entire J&K Police Pariwar to fallen heroes of J&K Police and other security forces who made supreme sacrifice while protecting national interests of the country. He said that the nation is indebted to the brave hearts who served the nation and its citizens till their last breath.

In the backdrop of the Investiture ceremony held today in Raj Bhawan, he congratulated recipients and their families for this prestigious recognition and said that getting rewarded with such a prestigious medal is not only a matter of pride but would also serve as an important and memorable moment for the awardees which they would cherish throughout their life. He wished them good luck and hoped that they will continue to work with the same dedication in future also.

DGP also thanked Hon’ble LG J&K, Shri Manoj Sinha, who presided over the ceremony, for honouring the awardees and families of martyrs for their service to the Nation.

*Martyr Constable Imtiyaz* Ahmad who has been conferred “President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (Posthumously) was martyred on 25th of august 2017 when he was leaving from his residential quarter to perform duties in SOG Camp Pulwama and notices iniquitous movement of some gunmen heading towards SOG Camp in a rush. He asked them to stop; they indiscriminately fired upon the constable in which he got injured, triggering an encounter. Despite being injured he continued to fight back and did not allow the Fidayeen to come close to the SOG Camp. In the process, the terrorists threw some UBGLs towards the brave heart due to which he was seriously injured and later attained martyrdom. The braveheart displayed conspicuous gallantry, courage and devotion to duty of a higher order. Three Pakistani terrorists were gunned down in that encounter.

*Martyr SgCt Rajinder Kumar* who has been conferred “Police Medal for Gallantry (Posthumously) was martyred on 11th of November 2016. On the faithful day, District police Poonch received a specific information regarding the presence of a group of terrorists in a residential house in Allapir area of the District. Sgct Rajinder Kumar being posted in District Special Branch immediately moved to the area to keep surveillance and collect further inputs about the reported movement of terrorists. On reaching, he noticed some suspicious movement in an under construction complex of Mini Secretariat building and immediately as he rushed to pass the information, the hiding terrorists opened fire on him in which the brave heart was injured, triggering an encounter. In the encounter, four foreign terrorists were killed and huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered. The braveheart later succumbed to injuries and attained martyrdom.
