March 29: `Continuing its unwavering efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, police have arrested two drug peddlers in Shopian and recovered contraband substance from their possession.

Police party from Police Station Shopian during naka checking at Batapora near Bus Stand Shopian intercepted two suspicious persons who tried to flee but was apprehended tactfully. During search, 6 grams of Heroin like substance concealed in Polythene bag was recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Ubaid-ullah Ganie son of Shakeel Ahmed Ganie resident of Memander Shopian & Rashid Naseer Tak Alias Yawer son of Naseer Ahmad Tak resident of Batapora Shopian. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.

In this regard, a case vide FIR No. 45/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Shopian and investigation has been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding Drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.```
