A Pak terrorist among 02 LeT terrorists neutralized in Srinagar _Big success for us as threat to Yatra averted: IGP Kashmir_

June 14:Police in Srinagar have neutralized 02 terrorists linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT including a Pakistani terrorist in a swift encounter at Bemina area of Central Kashmir’s Srinagar District.

Acting on specific information generated by Police regarding the movement of terrorists in Bemina area of Srinagar, who had earlier escaped from an encounter in Sopore and were being tracked continuously, Srinagar Police established a special naka in Bemina near JVC Bemina. During naka checking 02 suspects while approaching the said naka were challenged by the Naka party, to which these suspects’ (terrorists) started indiscriminate firing upon the said naka party. The fire was however effectively retaliated, leading to a brief encounter.

In the initial exchange of fire, five police personnel received minor injuries who were immediately evacuated to hospital for the treatment of their injuries.

In the ensuing brief encounter, 02 terrorists were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. As per the incriminating materials including documents recovered from the possession of both the killed terrorists, they have been identified as Abdullah Goujri resident of Faisalabad Pakistan and Adil Hussain Mir@ Sufian @ Musab resident of Anantnag, both linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT.

It is pertinent to mention here that the killed terrorist Adil Hussain Mir had crossed over to Pakistan in year 2018 on visit VISA from Wagah. While interacting with media, IGP Kashmir shared that Pakistan based terror handlers had sent two Pakistani LeT terrorists alongwith Adil Hussain, a resident of Pahalgam area with the directions to carry out attacks on Amarnath Yatra. However, all the three terrorists have been killed now in two separate encounters i.e; one at Sopore & in today’s brief encounter at Bemina, Srinagar.

IGP Kashmir appreciated the role of police for tracking & neutralizing the terrorists who had recently escaped in Sopore encounter. He further said it is a big success for us as they were planning to attack Amarnath Yatra however the prompt & timely action by the police led to the elimination of both the terrorists and thereby averting the possible major threat.

Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including 2 AK-47 rifles, 10 magazines, 165 live cartridges, Y-SMS device, Matrix sheets, Pakistani medicines etc were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror crimes.

In this connection, Police have registered a case under relevant sections of law and investigation has been initiated. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared off of all the explosive materials, if any.```
